Groups and Meetups

The group feature, which allows hunters to connect with each other and discover local hunter communities, as well as the meetup feature where users can participate in or host offline gatherings, utilize Niantic's Campfire app.

Groups

Campfire Groups is a community feature aimed at facilitating interaction among hunters. You can join existing groups or create your own. Learn more about creating groups here.

Meetups

With the Campfire Meetup feature, you can create or join events in real life. Use Campfire to deepen your connections with local hunters. Learn more about creating meetups here.

Viewing or Joining in Groups and Meetups 

Groups and Meetups created in Campfire will display as group or meetup icons on the map.

 

Viewing Groups

You can tap on Campfire group icons to view the following information:

  • Group name

  • Number of participants

  • Group location

※ Groups under 5 people are not displayed.

 

Joining Groups

Tap "JOIN GROUP" to launch the Campfire app. If you don't have the app installed, you'll be directed to the store page.

 

Viewing Campfire Meetups

You can tap on Campfire meetup icons to view the following information:

  • Meetup name

  • Meetup date and time

  • Meetup location

  • Meetup host

  • Number of participants

※ The number of participants is displayed under the meetup icon.

 

Joining Campfire Meetups

When you find a meetup you would like to join, you can register your participation by using the following steps:

  1. Tap the icon on the map.

  2. Tap the "Join in Campfire" button.

  3. The meetup details (WebView) will be displayed. Tap the "Join Meetup" button to confirm your participation.

  4. The icon of the meetup you registered for will change color and a checkmark will appear

※ You can cancel your registration by tapping the “Join Meetup” button once again until 15 minutes before the start of the meetup.

Checking in to Meetups

The check-in function keeps a record of your actual participation in the meetups you have registered to join.

The check-in becomes available 15 minutes before the start of the meetup. You can check in by heading to the meetup location. Meetups located within 1km of your current location can be checked in on the map. Meetups that are farther away from your current location cannot be checked in.

  1. Tap the icon of the meetup available for a check-in on the map. 

  2. When the meetup details (WebView) are displayed and the check-in is available, tap on the check-in button displayed.

  3. After the successful check-in, the button will change to “Checked In”.

 

Browse groups and registered meetups near your current location

You can check the Activity Center to see what groups and meetups are currently near your location.

  1. Tap the wide view icon in the upper right corner of the main screen.

  2. Tap the Groups and Meetups button in the upper left corner of the screen to open the Activity Center.

  3. Groups and Meetups near your current location will be listed.

  4. To switch to the Campfire map view, tap the map button in the upper right corner of the screen.
