Upon launching Pokémon GO for the first time, you will be asked to enter your child’s birth date, and select the new player option. If your child is under 13 years old (or below the digital consent age in your region), they’ll need to play under an account managed by a parent or guardian.

PTC (Pokémon Trainer Club) is a login method provided by The Pokémon Company International. It allows children to log in and play Pokémon GO by creating an account and linking it to an account managed by a parent or guardian. This method is commonly used for families already using PTC with other Pokémon services, and helps centralize access to Pokémon-related apps.

In this guide, we will focus on how to use this option.

Creating an Adult PTC account

As a general process, a parent or guardian must first create a Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) account. Then, through the PTC portal, they need to add their child to the account. Once this is completed, the child can access Pokémon GO using the linked account. To create an adult PTC account:

  1. Tap New Player

  2. Create a new account: Look for the option to create a new account and click on it.

  3. Provide personal information: Fill out the required fields, including your country, birthdate, and a unique email address.

  4. Complete the registration process: Follow the on-screen instructions and complete any required steps, such as verifying your email address.

  5. Enter a chosen username and password to log into your PTC account. This information will be used to recover your account. (Display may differ depending on your selected region.)
Please Note: This will be your PTC portal login information and not your in-game username.

  6. Activate your account: Check your email for an activation link(code) and click on it to finalize the account creation.

How to allow a child to play Pokémon GO with PTC

Note: After activation, your child will only be able to start playing after you log in to the Pokémon Trainer Club and select “Add a Child” to create a linked account with the following steps below.

  1. Log in to your Pokémon Trainer Club account at club.pokemon.com.

  2. Select “+ Add a Child” from the sidebar on the left side of the screen. This will take you to the Verify Your Identity page.

  4. Read and accept the Pokémon Website Terms of Use.

  5. Select Create Your Child’s Account.

  6. From the Apps & Games section, add Pokémon GO and enable login using PTC.

  10. The child should now be logged into their account.

Parental Controls and Child Account Permissions

Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) allows you to turn on/off the following functions for your child’s account:

  • Location (REQUIRED): Your child will need this permission to play Pokémon GO.

  • Sponsored Content: Allows the child to access in-game content featuring external companies

  • Friends: Allows your child to use the Friends feature (Trainer profile visibility, gift exchange, etc). Parents receive an email when new friends are added.

  • Party Play: Allow your child to access the Party Play feature (group play sessions). Your child will only be able to participate in a party if the Host is on their Friend List. Your child will not be able to share location with other Party Members

Additional Functions:

  • Add a new kid account

  • Change your registered email address/password on the portal

  • Enable multifactor authentication (MFA) to secure your account or your child’s account

Note: Some features are not available by default for child accounts and cannot be enabled manually. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Online Status: Child accounts cannot view others’ online status, and their own status will not be visible to friends—regardless of whether the setting is turned on or off.

  • Routes – Creation: Child accounts are not able to create Routes.

  • Reward Road: This feature is not accessible to child accounts.

  • Live Event Tickets

    • Child accounts will not see the “Events” tab that lists live events like GO Fest or GO Tour. However, parents can still purchase live event tickets for their child if their own Pokémon GO account is the parent email of record for the child account.
