Getting Started
To get started, start by booting your device, entering the app, and getting oriented.
Note: Hello, Dot on the Meta Quest platform requires only hand gestures, not handheld controllers.
Once the app loads, you will see your Dot! You can summon your Dot by holding your palm out.
Grab the laser pointer, hanging to your right, to interact with your Dot in a fun way! You interact with the Dot with your hands. Try petting, picking them up, and getting them to chase you with the laser pointer.
Nearby you should see a contraption reminiscent of an Arcade Machine. If you cannot find it, look at your hands and clap three times. It will appear in front of you. Use the handle on the right of the machine to drag and position it wherever you want.
Arcade Machine
This is the Arcade Machine, it allows you to interact with your Dot in a variety of fun ways! Below is a breakdown of how to use it.
Note: You can grab the handle and pull to move it around your room, or clap three times to teleport the Arcade in front of you, give it a try!
Earning Acorns and Pawprints
Pawprints are rewards your Peridot gives you when you make them happy. You can save up your Pawprints to buy Acorns and store up enough energy for play dates.
Acorns are the virtual currency the Arcade accepts. They can be used to purchase
in-game items that you can store and retrieve in your Items shelves.
To earn Acorns, you need to have a successful play date using the Door function on the Arcade Machine. They are also on sale in exchange for Pawprints.
To add Pawprints to your Arcade, you’ll need to vacuum them off of the ground. To collect them, grab the vacuum on the right hand side of the Arcade and hold it to the ground. Make sure you replace the vacuum for the Pawprints to make it into the Arcade.
Door
The Door is a feature that allows you to have immersive play dates between your Dot and a variety of Visitor Dots. To enter a play date, simply grab the lever on the left hand side of the Arcade Machine and move it to the “Door” slot. Then, use the handle to open the Door.
Play dates cost Pawprints, which can be obtained by Vacuuming Pawprints your Dot leaves behind when interacting with it.
Items
Items are things you’ve purchased from the store or were rewarded after a play date. Items can include Stickers, toys, props and accessories.
To store or retrieve an item grab the lever on the left side of the Arcade and move it to the “Item” slot. Shelves appear. You can grab any of the items that appear. You can return the items by hovering until you see where it is stored. If you have more than one of the same item, they’ll all be stored in the same space.
Stickers appear in the Items. Stickers are unlocked by completing achievements in the game. You can decorate your space with the stickers or store them in their spot.
If you want to quickly put all of your items away, just pull the rope. All items will return to their spots. Stickers remain out until manually moved.
Store
Use virtual currency to purchase items at the store. Items at the Store will either cost Pawprints or Acorns.
To access the Store, grab the lever on your left and move it to the “Store” slot.
You can change the category of available items that you see by horizontally sliding the selector above the selection of goods. To purchase an item, hover your hand over the item until it’s highlighted. You can then grab it. It’s yours to keep.
You can put any accessory on your Dot or the visitor Dot by placing it on their head, face or neck. To remove the item, shake the Dot (gently), and it will fall to the floor
Customize
You can customize your Dot in so many fun ways using the “Customize” option on the Arcade Machine. To start, grab the lever on your left and move it to the Customize slot. You will see a bucket of paint and a microphone.
Want to do a random customization? Just dunk your Dot in the paint.
If you want to direct the customization, use the microphone and speak to change the bucket of paint to whatever pattern or color you would like. The microphone uses gen AI to change the bucket’s paint to whatever you would like! For example, “rainbow!”, or “pink flowers!”.
After you’re happy with the words appearing on the screen, grab the Dot and dunk them in the paintbucket to see the new Dot look.
Dotball
Dotball is a fun and competitive minigame you can play with your Dot. To play Dotball, grab the lever on your left and move it to the “Dotball” slot. A timer will start counting down and a scoreboard will appear.
Use the suction device below the scoreboard to get a ball. Open your hand and tilt it back, like you are giving a High Five, for suction. Make a fist to shoot the ball. Aim for your Dot! If you hit them, you get a point. Your Dot will also try throwing balls at you, be sure to dodge them or else your Dot will get a point!
Eating Contest
Eating Contest is another fun and competitive minigame you can play with your Dot. To play, grab the lever on your left and move it to the “Eating Contest” slot. A plant and scoreboard will appear. Toss the plant on the ground to start this minigame.
If you look down, you will see bushes growing and food sprouting on the bushes! The objective of the game is to eat more food than your Dot. To eat, grab food from the bushes and bring it up to your face to eat it. Be careful! Some food is rotten. If you eat this food, your score will be deducted. You can play defense by throwing this food on the ground, so the Dots can’t eat it.
