One of the benefits of connecting with friends in Pokémon GO is gaining the ability to send and receive Gifts. When you visit and spin PokéStops, you may occasionally find a Gift. Buddy Pokémon may also bring you Gifts from nearby Pokéstops.
Gifts contain an assortment of useful items, but you cannot open a Gift yourself. Instead, you can only send a Gift to a friend to open.

Each Gift includes a postcard about the PokéStop where it was collected. When you send a Gift to a friend, you’ll also share the PokéStop where you found this item. Note that your friend will be able to see the location you’ve visited when you send a Gift.
You can hold a maximum of 20 Gifts in your Bag at any given time. However, Gifts do not take up any of your inventory space.
Note: For child accounts, parents or guardians may opt into enabling multiplayer features through the Niantic Kids Parent Portal or Pokémon Trainer Club website.

You can send each of your friends up to one Gift per day. If your friend has not yet opened a Gift that you’ve previously sent them, you won’t be able to send them another one until they open the first one.
Your Friend will receive a notification that you sent them a Gift. Once they open your Gift, they’ll receive a variety of items, such as Poké Balls, Potions, Berries, and even Pokémon Eggs. Sending Gifts will increase your Friendship level and earn you extra bonuses. Your Friends will be able to save the Postcards attached to your Gifts to their own Postcard Book. You can control whether your name is displayed in your Friend's Postcard Book when you first use the Postcard Book or in the settings menu.
