Max Pokémon are a special type of Pokémon that are able to undergo rare phenomena that make them appear huge!

Dynamax Pokémon are able to undergo a transformation called Dynamaxing. After Dynamaxing, Pokémon don’t just look bigger, they get a boost in power by learning special attacks called Max Moves!

A specific few Pokémon may also undergo the rare phenomenon called Gigantamaxing. Unlike with Dynamax, not only do Gigantamax Pokémon become bigger, but their appearance also changes. Like Dynamaxing, Gigantamaxing boosts the power of the Pokémon—and it also allows each Gigantamax Pokémon to use a unique Max Move.

Max Pokémon can be found at or near special locations, called Power Spots, that will appear throughout the map. To catch a Max Pokémon, you will have to first defeat it in a Max Battle. Max Pokémon will remain in their giant form for the entire battle and have other unique powers to boot. They won’t go down easily!

Partner with your own Max Pokémon and team up with other Trainers in your local area to defeat the powerful Max Battle boss. If you and your fellow Trainers are successful, you’ll be rewarded with special items and a chance at catching the Max Pokémon. Trainers can also use PokéCoins to upgrade their rewards to receive even more items!

Note that, once you’ve caught a Max Pokémon, it will return to its original form in your Pokémon storage.

After you catch the Max Pokémon, it will be able to Dynamax or Gigantamax in certain situations, like Max Battles, and use a powerful Max Move. For Dynamax Pokémon, the Max Move is based on its Fast Attack type but Gigantamax Pokémon may feature special Max Moves.

In Max Battles, Max Pokémon may also use Max Spirit to heal themselves and their allies or Max Guard to reduce damage taken from an opposing Max Battle boss.

Max Particles can also be used alongside Pokémon Candy to unlock Max Moves, and train them for stronger effects during Max Battles! Training Max Moves will reward XP.
