You earn free PokéCoins for keeping your Pokémon on Gyms. The longer the Pokémon stay on the Gym, the more PokéCoins you earn. Be sure to give your Pokémon treats often to keep them on the Gym and maximize the PokéCoins you’ll earn (up to the maximum bonus amount for the day). When your Pokémon leaves the Gym, it will return to your collection bringing back PokéCoins with it.
You'll receive PokéCoins only after your Pokémon returns from the Gym, and you’ll receive an in-game notification with the amount of PokéCoins earned. You can also check tap Main Menu
> News
> Notifications to see the number PokéCoins your Pokémon earned.

You can see which Pokémon are currently defending a Gym and their remaining CP in the Today View.
Tip: To receive a push notification each time one of your Pokémon returns from a Gym, go to Settings > Push Notifications and tap the circle next to Pokémon's Return.
Not receiving the Defender Bonus?
Once you've reached the daily limit of 50 PokéCoins, you won't be able to earn any more PokéCoins until the next day. If you have more than one Pokémon return from Gyms in a single day, the maximum bonus for the day is still limited to 50 PokéCoins. If a Pokémon returns after multiple days in a Gym, the maximum bonus for the day is still limited to 50 PokéCoins.
You can see your progress towards the daily PokéCoin limit in the Today View.
Please note that the maximum bonus limit is subject to change and may vary from time to time.
