Your Trainer avatar is a character model that represents you in Pokémon GO and is visible to others when you battle, trade, or add them as friends.
You can change your avatar’s physical features as well as their clothing and accessories. There are a variety of clothing and accessory styles available, and you can choose between different hairstyles, skin tones, shirts, pants, footwear, and more.
Many styles are available for free, but some styles can be obtained only by exchanging PokéCoins and others can be unlocked through in-game achievements.
Changing your Avatar’s Physical Features
In Map View, tap your Trainer’s portrait in the bottom left.
Tap Style
Tap Appearance
Within each category, you can select from a number of different physical features to customize your avatar’s appearance.
Some categories, such as hair color, skin tone, eye color or body features, can be further customized beyond the preset options by tapping on the Custom button.
To exit a custom menu, tap the X button in the upper left corner.
Once you are satisfied with your selection, you can apply your selections to your avatar.
Tap the X button to return to the previous menu.
Changing your Avatar’s Clothing
In Map View, tap your Trainer’s portrait in the bottom left.
Tap Style
Select an apparel category from the available options.
Within the category, select from different style and color options. As you select various options, your avatar will update to show you the options you’ve chosen.
You can toggle the preview between a closeup and full-body view by tapping the magnifying glass in the upper left corner.
Once you are satisfied with your selection, you can apply the style to your avatar.
For free items: tap Choose to wear the item.
For premium items: tap Exchange to use PokéCoins to purchase the item.
Tap the X button to return to the previous menu. If you have built an outfit out of premium items that are not currently in your inventory, tap Exchange to exchange PokéCoins for the items you don’t currently own.
Trainer Tip: You can save your favorite outfit combinations in the Outfits category. Tap the + button to add your current style as an outfit and easily swap between your best looks. Note that saved outfits will be deleted if you reinstall the app or get a new device.
