By default, all Pokémon have two attacking moves: a Fast Attack and a Charged Attack. Fast Attacks deal a small amount of damage, while also powering up a Charged Attack. Charged Attacks can be used once they’re fully powered up and they also deal larger amounts of damage.
You can teach your Pokémon another Charged Attack by exchanging Stardust and Candy. Once learned, it will also be available to use in Raids, Gyms, and Trainer Battles. This option is accessible in the Pokémon summary page.
The bars next to a Charged Attack represent how much energy is required to use the attack. A single, long bar means it takes a lot of energy to charge the attack, while multiple smaller bars indicate the attack uses less energy per charge, allowing it to be used more frequently.
Charged Attack Energy is generated by using Fast Attacks. Once you’ve generated enough energy, you can use the Charged Attack. Note that the energy required to use a specific Charged Attack may vary between Gyms & Raids and Trainer Battles.
Trainer Tip: When evaluating which Charged Attacks to teach your Pokémon, strive for a balance between less powerful Charged Attacks that may be used more frequently with more powerful Charged Attacks that may take longer to prepare.
Additionally, some Charged Attacks have extra boosts or drops. These are represented on the Pokémon summary page as well. When these Charged Attacks are used in Trainer Battles or Battle Training, they have a chance of activating the boosts or drops.
