Exploration bases are local landmarks that hunters can grow together by cooperating with each other. Throughout the Waves that span around 3 weeks, hunters from around the area can grow exploration bases by making Exploration Reports by submitting emblems such as Exploration Emblems.
Monsters Outbreaks are bound to occur during a Wave.
The higher the base’s level, the greater the slaying goal - but also the rewards!
Once the Wave ends you'll be recognized for your contributions to the Exploration Bases in the Base Awards, where you’ll be able to check out the world's top ranked hunters. Let’s celebrate everyone’s effort together!
Notes
For the Waves and Monster Outbreaks schedules, please check the News page on our official site.
Once the Wave ends, the status of the exploration base, collected Slaying Emblems, and Base Reputation will reset. However, Exploration Emblems will not reset!
At least HR 11 is required to access the exploration bases.
Make sure to follow the Niantic Terms of Service and Niantic Player Guidelines, be aware of your surroundings and try not to disturb other people around you, including other hunters as well as residents of the area.
Some exploration bases might be removed during a Wave. In that case, please take part in another exploration base in your vicinity.
Once the Wave ends, there is around 1 day break before a new Wave starts. During this time, it’s possible to still collect Exploration Emblems, but not Slaying Emblems.

Exploration Emblems
There are several ways you can collect Exploration Emblems:
Gather materials from Gathering Points (L).
Slay 1 monster in a Hunt-a-thon.
Slay or repel an Elder Dragon.
Distant Exploration Bonus
The farther away from your Exploration Base you obtain an Exploration Emblem, the more base reputation you will receive when submitting reports. However, this bonus doesn’t affect the base’s growth.
The table below shows the bonus received based on distance. The distance from your base will be displayed below each Exploration Emblem when you submit it.
Exploration Emblem type | Gathering Point (L) | Hunt-a-thon | Elder Dragon Interception |
Within 5 km | 10 Base Reputation | 30 Base Reputation | 50 Base Reputation |
5 km - 100 km | 20 Base Reputation | 60 Base Reputation | 100 Base Reputation |
100 km - 1000 km | 30 Base Reputation | 90 Base Reputation | 150 Base Reputation |
Over 1000 km | 50 Base Reputation | 150 Base Reputation | 250 Base Reputation |
Slaying Emblems
You will obtain 1 Slaying Emblem per 10 large monsters you slay on the field (with the exception of Hunt-a-thons and Elder Dragon Interceptions). Similar to Exploration Emblems, Slaying Emblems can be used to grow the base by submitting them there. Please note that you will lose all Slaying Emblems once a Wave ends, so they can’t be transferred over to the next Wave.
Notes
Distant Exploration Bonus does not apply to Slaying Emblems.
Access to the Exploration Base
There are several ways you can access the nearest exploration base to your current location:
Tap the Exploration Base button on the bottom right side of the main screen.
Tap any exploration base displayed on the field.
Notes
You can view the details and submit your reports outside of the access range. However, if you want to participate in a Monster Outbreak, the exploration base needs to be inside the access range.
Only the nearest exploration base is displayed in the wide view.
What can be done at the Exploration Base
The current base reputation can be checked in the upper right corner.
You can toggle the view between the Exploration Base screen and Monster Outbreak screen with the button on the upper right part of the screen.
You can access the details screen by tapping the banner.
By tapping on “View on Map”, you can check the locations of exploration bases on the Monster Hunter Now map. By tapping on “Get Directions” you can check the route to the base on your smartphone’s map application.
Submitting reports and developing the Exploration Base
Exploration Reports are done by submitting Exploration Emblems to your exploration base. The more reports you submit, the more you can develop and increase the level of your exploration base.
Access the exploration base and tap on the “Submit Report” button.
At the top you can see the type and number of Exploration Emblems needed to develop the exploration base. Exploration Emblems with extra bonus provide special bonuses.
Your Exploration Emblems can be viewed at the bottom. Select 5 of them and tap the button at the bottom of the screen to submit the report.
Once the report is submitted, you will gain base reputation. If you submit Exploration Emblems to an already completed category, you can increase the base reputation but it does not contribute to the base development.
Hunters who have earned the most base reputation will appear on the leaderboard.
Notes:
Although your exploration report will display immediately, it will take up 30 minutes to reflect other hunter’s reports.
“Recommended” button
If you’re unsure of which Exploration Emblems to submit, you can use the Recommended button, which will automatically select your Emblems based on the 3 rules below:
They can contribute to the Exploration Base growth.
You can receive an extra bonus.
You can obtain more Base Reputation
Base Reputation and Leaderboard
The base reputation are points that can be obtained by submitting exploration reports or slaying monsters in Monster Outbreaks. Hunters who earned the most reputation for a certain exploration base will appear on the leaderboard. This can be confirmed by going to the exploration base, then tapping on the banner. The names will display on the bottom of the details screen.
Base reputation is accumulated per individual exploration base.
Monster Outbreaks
During the Waves, Monster Outbreaks will occur at each exploration base, where specific monsters appear in large numbers at specified times. Rewards for achieving targets increase based on the exploration base's level.
Sign-up Roster (1 week before the Monster Outbreak)
One week before the Monster Outbreak, you can indicate in advance at which exploration base you plan to participate.
Access an exploration base and toggle the button on the banner to the right.
1 week before the Monster Outbreaks, you will be able to sign up. If you decide to participate in the Monster Outbreak at this exploration base, you need to select “Join” and put a check mark at the time you plan to participate, then tap Confirm. You can only select one time period at the sign-up roster.
It is possible to change your exploration base to participate after signing up as many times as you like. By signing up to a different exploration base, the previous sign-up will be automatically overwritten.
On the Outbreak Notice screen, you can check how many other participants signed up for each period.
Monster Outbreak (The day of participation)
When the time for the Monster Outbreak arrives, head to the exploration base you signed up for and achieve the target number of 100 monsters slain while cooperating with other hunters.
Requirements for obtaining the goal rewards
You submitted at least 1 exploration report to the exploration base you signed up for.
You slayed at least 1 monster during the outbreak at your exploration base.
Notes
You will receive rewards each time you meet the objectives in each time period. The rewards are provided after the end of each time period.
The rewards from Monster Outbreaks need to be accepted within 2 days from the end of the outbreak by launching the app.
When a hunter listed on a base's leaderboard participates in a Monster Outbreak at that base, their ranking will be visible to other hunters in the lobby and on the hunting screen.
In order to participate in the Monster Outbreak, tap on the monsters at your exploration base while the base is within your access range.
Only hunters gathered at the specific exploration base can participate in monsters slaying. You can’t match with hunters from other exploration bases.
Rewards for meeting the objectives are decided at the start of each time period based on the exploration base level.
The party function is not available. Hunts will always be group hunts.
The slaying goal is calculated based on the total number of monsters slain by all hunters at the specific exploration base. In the case of group hunts, the number counted towards the goal reflects the number of players in the hunt. For example, if a group of 4 hunters slays one monster, it will count as 4 towards the slaying goal.
It is possible to continue hunting the target monsters even after the target number is achieved.
During a Monster Outbreak, you can join the next hunt directly from the hunt report after slaying a monster. If you wish to stop hunting, tap the button in the bottom lower part of the Lobby screen.
The Base Awards
The Base Awards start automatically when you access your Exploration Base after one Wave is cleared and the next one is about to begin. You can also skip them by tapping on Watch Later and view them later by going to your Exploration Base screen and tapping on The Base Awards button.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the rewards change if the exploration base level increases after the Monster Outbreak?
