We want Ingress to be a fun and safe experience for all players and for everyone out in the real world where the game is played. Following these common-sense guidelines, in addition to the Ingress Community Guidelines, will help to ensure you and other players have a great experience and that others are not negatively affected by your gameplay.

I. Be noble in your words and deeds

Ingress is a game of strategy, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. An Agent is judged not only by their AP level or Medals but also by the strength of their character. Practicing good, common sense by being respectful and helpful to others is the best way to gain the respect of your community. Treating others how you would like to be treated is a golden rule for Ingress. While no one is perfect, we do ask you to strive to maintain the same standards of behavior that you expect others to adhere to.

Ingress is for players from all walks of life. Because all Agents are subject to your actions in COMM and on the field, certain interactions that seem harmless or fun to you can negatively impact their experience, even if this is not your intent.

Play fair and only use official Niantic Labs software; remember Ingress is meant to be played on a mobile device and get you outside to explore your world. If you believe another player is cheating, report suspected abuse via the Help Center.

II. Be respectful - in the game and in real life

Playing with an opposing faction is one of the reasons why Ingress is such fun. And unlike many other games, you may actually meet the people you play against. It’s in everyone’s best interest to keep things courteous and fun for all.

When you’re out in the field, let the actions in your Scanner speak for themselves. It's appropriate to greet other Agents you meet while playing. In fact, many Ingress players have met new friends from both factions. However, like any social situation, be mindful that some players would prefer to keep to themselves and you should respect this if someone seems reluctant to engage with you.

Remember that Portals are fair game for everyone and no player or faction has a special claim to any one Portal. Fighting to control a Portal is part of the fun, don't take it personally or become adversarial. If you find yourself in a heated battle for Portals, keep it focused on your Scanner. Refrain from yelling at or making obscene gestures to other players, or making physical contact. Also, don’t take photos or videos of other players unless you have their permission. Remember that certain interactions that seem harmless or fun to you may be perceived completely differently by other players or bystanders. Use good judgment and common sense -- leave bystanders and other players alone if they don’t want to talk to you.

And if other players are being too aggressive, offensive, overly protective of a Portal or simply making you feel uncomfortable while out in the field, leave the area and don’t engage with them.

III. Respect player privacy

If you choose a codename that you use across the web, keep in mind that you may have provided a link to your personal information. Try doing a Google search of your desired codename, and if it turns up any information you don't want other players to find, consider choosing something more anonymous.

Respect other players’ privacy by not posting or revealing other information about a user’s identity, including their name, phone number, email, or physical address. For example, if you know where someone lives or works from your real-life interactions with them, don't broadcast their location in Comm, post it on social networks, or attempt to reveal it in the game by dropping items in front of their home or work location. Also, don’t reveal personal information about bystanders or anyone else.

IV. Adhere to the rules of the human world

Be responsible and hold yourself to the highest standards. As an Ingress Agent, your actions impact both the playfield and the real world. It’s important to be aware of the rules that govern both worlds.

Pay attention to your surroundings; you never know what beautiful or interesting things you'll see while playing the game.

If you’re not sure you have the right to access any property or location, consider finding another Portal. Use good judgment and take responsibility for your actions. Protect the reputation of Ingress Agents everywhere and follow the rules of society.
